I create with non-traditional materials to challenge the preconceived notion of their original purpose. Natural, manufactured, found, and repurposed materials bring their own history to the pieces they are incorporated into. Structure is achieved by connecting and suspending these disparate materials and their origins together with different weights of annealed steel wire. Annealed steel wire, allows me to translate a drawn line into 3-dimensions. Combined with aluminum screen that I stretch, paint, sculpt, drape and stitch, the work also benefits from screen’s inherent properties of transparency and opacity. These materials and processes allow me to artistically explore the spectrum of experiences and concepts of repairing, rebuilding, reinvention, loss, reclamation, beauty, ugliness, flaws, perfection, and irony.
